a.  STUDIO
Jamie Alexander Studio is a design and build practice working across landscape, terrain and objects. Through drawing, making and careful observation, the studio creates places that feel rooted in their terrain and responsive to the passage of time.

Based in South London, the studio undertakes commissions throughout the UK, with landscape design and build projects primarily delivered across London, Surrey and the South West.

b.  DESIGN
Landscape is understood as a single field rather than a collection of parts. Ground, planting, material and water are brought into alignment through drawing, geometry and careful observation of place. The aim is not decoration, but coherence.

c.  BUILD
Construction is delivered through Studio Beechwood, the studio's build and implementation arm, supported by a curated network of craftspeople, fabricators and specialist contractors.

The studio remains actively involved throughout delivery, maintaining authorship from first drawing to final completion. This close relationship between design and construction ensures that the intentions established during the design process are carried through to the finished landscape.

Jamie Alexander Studio is where ideas are developed. Studio Beechwood is where those ideas are tested, refined and brought into reality.

d.  PHILOSOPHY
A Landscape is not a fixed object but a living condition, shaped by weather, growth, occupation and time. The studio approaches each project as part of a larger terrain, where landform, planting, material and architecture are considered together rather than in isolation.

The intention is not simply to create beautiful gardens, but places that feel grounded, coherent and deeply connected to their surroundings. Spaces that gather character through use, mature with the passing seasons and evolve alongside the landscapes that contain them. Particular attention is given to how people experience a place; through movement, light, sound, atmosphere and the subtle presence of the natural world.

The most successful landscapes are those that feel inevitable; as though they have always belonged to a place. Not imposed upon the terrain, but drawn from it. Places that appear to have emerged from the land itself, waiting to be revealed rather than forced into being. Through careful observation, design and construction, the studio seeks to create landscapes that foster a lasting relationship between people, nature and place.

JAMIE
ALEXANDER

Jamie is a designer and builder working across landscape, terrain and objects.

The relationship between people, landscape and time. How spaces shape human interaction, how weather and season influence our experience of place, and how architecture, material and planting can work together to create environments that feel both purposeful and alive.

Drawing on experience in architecture, the built environment and garden design, his work explores the relationship between landform, material and ecology.

In 2023, he founded Studio Beechwood, establishing a practice rooted equally in drawing and making. The experience of shaping landscapes through both design and construction continues to inform the work of Jamie Alexander Studio today.
